WORD FROM THE WINEMAKER WITH CORYMBIA WINE
In our first instalment of Word from the Winemaker, we're delighted to be showcasing our friends at Corymbia. Despite being on the other side of the world in Western Australia, they're one of our closest partners and advocates of the Jancis Robinson Collection. We were delighted to sit down with the makers behind the wine, Rob & Genevieve Mann, to find out more about their history and why our glassware is their number one choice.
"Corymbia is born from over 110 years of Western Australian grape growing and winemaking experience. The wines are made from vineyards we farm from dirt to bottle in the Swan Valley & Margaret River. Our wines are made from dry grown, organically farmed grapes from single vineyard sites, offering the purest expression of fruit and a clear sense of place."
"The winemaking is very traditional using techniques such as hand harvesting, gravity, oak fermentation, indigenous yeast and natural malolactic fermentation. Where oak is used, it is seasoned oak that subtly offers support to the fruit. Our wines express the qualities of the Swan Valley and Margaret River that Rob's family has admired for generations."
"Having spent countless years in the wine industry both in Australia and overseas, we have seen the progression through a few 'fashions and trends of glassware overtime! Glassware, like our winemaking, needs to be uncomplicated and respectful. We describe our wines as neo-classical. One glass for every wine strongly reflects the integrity we look for in glassware. Classical, redefined. Elegant, fine boned structure with the robustness to wear the perils of daily life!"
"The south west of Australia, where we grow and make our wine, is home to some of the world's oldest viticultural soils, formed from decomposed and oxidised granite. The soil structure is critical to the balance of the vines and the wines, when grown and made respectfully, express a ferrous character that the Jancis Robinson Collection wine glasses amplify like no other glass. All the layers, nuances and complexities inherent to the wines are also amplified. The young wine decanter really allows our wines to open up and express themselves, as they tend to be rather structured and slightly reductive when young. As winemaker's we like to set up trials, blind tastings with and without the use of the young wine decanter. There is a notable difference, and preference to our wines served after a light splash in the decanter!"
