MEET PESKY FISH
With Christmas creeping nearer and nearer, we’re thinking about smoked salmon and paté more than one really should these days. No Christmas is truly complete without the perfect canapés of smoked salmon blinis in our opinion, and with a proper Christmas planned after last year’s dampened festivities, every detail of the season needs to be perfect. Meet Pesky Fish, the innovative market to hand startup that has revolutionised how we buy fish and who we're delighted to be partnering with to deliver you the ultimate limited edition hamper this Christmas.
The concept is simple and much needed. Every morning, that day’s catch is uploaded onto their online market, allowing customers to purchase fish from their fleet as soon as it’s landed and have it delivered to their door the next day. The result? The freshest fish at the best value and a higher price for the fisherman. They currently sell more than two tonnes of fish through their sustainable and traceable methods, allowing consumers to make well-informed decisions about the food they buy.
Founded originally with the aim of connecting fishermen directly with wholesalers, retailers and restaurants by cutting out the conventional middleman, Pesky Fish has grown in ambition since delivering its first fish in November 2017. The pandemic and immediate impact lockdown had on the hospitality industry saw Pesky Fish branch out to a direct home delivery service... much to our joy! In addition to fresh fish from their sea fleet, they also stock high-end farmed products, such as mussels from the River Teign, and Wester Ross salmon, smoked with heather honey by Iain Boyd in Ullapool.
Co-founders Ben King and Aiden Berry started the venture with single fishing boats but have now expanded to whole ports, including the recent addition of Hastings. A quick look through their Instagram shows the importance of what they’re doing. By showcasing individual fisherman and fleets, Pesky Fish are allowing fishermen to take control of their industry and are supporting a sector that has suffered in recent years as demand has shifted to international waters.
By giving consumers the opportunity to purchase British fish caught by British fishermen, Pesky Fish are helping to breathe life back into one of the country's strongest assets, whilst providing us with the tastiest of morsels!
This Christmas we’ve partnered with Pesky Fish to provide the ultimate festive hamper, including a curation of pieces from our Hook and Jancis Robinson Collections, and everything needed to throw together the perfect fish platter this festive season.
