An Introduction To The Occasional Wine Glasses

We are ever so proud to be expanding our wine glass offering this Summer with the introduction three new glasses: The Burgundy Glass, The Bordeaux Glass and The Champagne Glass.

We are ever so proud to be expanding our wine glass offering this Summer with the introduction three new glasses: The Burgundy Glass, The Bordeaux Glass and The Champagne Glass.

The Occasional Wine Glass Collection

Previously, we had been solely known for our Universal Glass from the highly successful Jancis Robinson Collection. Following its incredible response, we have expanded our wine stemware offering with three new glasses that stay true to our design philosophy: creating the perfect tools for Finer Dining Every Day, now with an added layer of refinement for those truly special moments.

Designed for those who appreciate the theatre of dining and the pleasure of pairing a specific varietal or vintage with the ideal glass, these new additions bring greater nuance to the table. Yet the same principles still apply. We believe everyone should be able to enjoy food and drink at its fullest with Glassware that is functional, elegant and timeless.

The Jancis Robinson x Richard Brendon Universal Wine Glass was designed to offer the best possible tasting experience for any and every wine. This belief remains unchanged. Drinking great wine should be effortless, and we are confident that one perfectly formed glass can offer that experience, free of clutter and full of clarity.

Still, there are moments when something different is called for. With the new Burgundy, Bordeaux and Champagne glasses, we celebrate those occasions with a little added theatre and intention, designed for those moments when you’re opening a truly special bottle.

The glasses are mouth blown by master glassblowers, gossamer thin, perfectly balanced and feel almost weightless. They are an absolute joy to drink from and they make any glass of wine, whatever the occasion, more pleasurable and more memorable.

The Bordeaux Glass

This glass is perfect for when you’re cracking open a special bottle of full bodied red wine with medium to high tannins. It’s generous size makes a statement without being outrageously tall; meaning it will fit in your dishwasher and isn’t terrifyingly easy to knock over. It’s the perfect glass for all of the red grape varieties grown in Bordeaux and the majority of hot climate red grapes.

Grape Varietals: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec, Carménère, Syrah, Shiraz, Mourvedre, Nebbiolo, Sangiovese, Primitivo, Zinfandel, Nero d'Avola, Tempranillo, Tanat, Touriga Nacional, etc.

Wine regions or Styles: Bordeaux, Northern Rhone, Southern Rhone, Languedoc, Barbaresco, Barolo, Super Tuscan, Montepulciano, Montalcino, Chianti, Rioja, Ribera Del Duero, Napa Valley, Sanoma, Yakima Valley, Columbia, Okanagan Valley, Hawkes Bay, Margaret River, Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Coonawarra, Yarra Valley, Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, Mendoza, Maipo Valley, Bekaa Valley, etc.

The Burgundy Glass

The ideal glass for red (Pinot Noir) and white Burgundy (Chardonnay). This is the glass to go for when opening a special bottle of lighter bodied red wine with medium to low tannins; or rich, fuller bodied white wines - particularly those with oak influence and lees aging. This will also be a great glass for orange wine (white grapes which are fermented in contact with their skins). This glass has a generously wide waist, whilst still being able to fit on your dining table (and in your dishwasher). Whilst others may be wider, ours will not create its own gravitational pull when you swirl your precious juice.

Grape Varietals: Pinot Noir, Gamay, Cinsaut, Mature Nebbiolo, Grenache, Pais Oaked Chardonnay, Oaked Chenin Blanc, Oaked Furmint, Oaked Sauvignon Blanc, Oaked Semillon, Barbera, etc.

Wine regions or Styles: Burgundy, Loir, Sancerre, Beaujolais, England, Alsace, Barolo, Barbaresco, Western Cape, Elgin, Walker Bay, Mornington Peninsula, Yarra Valley, Marlborough, Martinborough, Canterbury, Central Otago, Tasmania, Sanoma, Nappa, Santa Rita Hills, Central Coast California, Willamette Valley, Hunter Valley, Auckland.

The Champagne Glass

The perfect glass for Champagne and all types of sparkling wine - at Richard Brendon we’re particularly fond of English Sparkling Wine. This glass is a hybrid between a flute and a wine glass, meaning you will be able to enjoy the aroma of the wine which is a major part of how we taste, and the bubbles still look great.

A real celebratory glass to toast any occasion with a special bottle of bubbles. Like all of our wine glasses this has been designed to fit in the dishwasher and we highly recommend you wash the glasses in this way.

Grape Varietals: Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier, Glera, Chenin Blanc, Garnacha, Trepat,  Monastrell.

Wine regions or Styles:
Champagne, Cremant, English Sparkling Wine, Prosecco, Asti, Cava, Method Traditional, Cap Classique.

Enjoy the nuances in your wine, or stick with your trusty Jancis Robinson Universal Stems.
